Elementary Keyboarding and Computers
Students in second through fifth grade started out the year learning all about computers and how they work. They have learned how to wake up or turn on the computers, log in and out and shut down the computers, what a CPU is and what it does, what a motherboard does, proper posture and positioning parts of their bodies to prevent over-use injuries, and how to use the different parts of their keyboard. They started working in the web-based program Dance Mat Typing, but it kept freezing up on them, so we are now working in typing.com. The second grade is still working in Dance Mat Typing.
The students are excited to see their improvement each time they complete a lesson. Later in the year they will learn to search for information and pictures on the Internet and apply them to their term paper requirements.

Grading Policies
GRADES 5-6 ELEMENTARY COMPUTER GRADE SCALE
Grading in this computer class will be based on attendance, participation, effort, attitude, assignments and tests. Students will be graded daily on attendance and quality of participation.
75% Participation and Attendance (Daily Grade)
25% Testing and Homework
All late homework will receive 50% of the points earned the first day it is late, 25% of the points the second day and 0% the third day.
Daily Grading
10 Superior Effort (this is an extra credit point—you must go above and beyond what has been asked)
9 Full Participation / On Time
8 Small Infraction/No Consequence
7 Tardy/Inadequate Participation/Poor Attitude / Enforcement of Consequence
6 Inadequate Participation / 2nd Enforcement of Consequence
0-5 Unexcused Absence / Blatant Misbehavior
In the case of a substitute teacher, any behavior by any student that has to be noted by the sub will receive 1 hour of detention. Any detention that a sub doles out during a class will be served again when I get back. Poor behavior directed toward a sub is inexcusable.
Absences: Each semester a 5-6 grade student will earn six free absences. After their six “free” absences, they will receive makeup homework for any further absences. Failure to turn in those makeup assignments will receive zero points and will have a negative effect on their grade.

Teacher had to constantly address student behavior, student caused many classroom interruptions, not listening, poor attitude, poor anger management, had behavior problems, etc.
Listened and followed all the directions, was polite and respectful to teacher and classmates, kept to themselves, stayed on task. Did all of the above but maybe once or twice wasn’t the perfect child such as whining, tattling, not listening, not doing what they were supposed to be doing. Teacher had to address behavior more than twice but student still did their best the rest of the time. Blatant misbehavior. |
Absences for 2-6 grades will be treated as follows: Each quarter a student will earn six free absences. After their six “free” absences, they will receive makeup homework for any further absences. Failure to turn in those makeup assignments will receive zero points and will have a negative effect on their grade.
