PE GRADE SCALE (for Grades 5-12)
Grading in this Physical Education and Health class will be based on attendance, participation, effort, attitude, assignments and tests. Students will be graded daily on attendance and quality of participation.
75% Participation and Attendance (Daily Grade)
25% Testing and Homework
All late homework will receive 50% of the points earned the first day it is late, 25% of the points the second day and 0% the third day.
Daily Grading
10 Superior Effort (this is an extra credit point—you must go above and beyond what has been asked)
9 Full Dress / Full Participation / On Time
8 Small Infraction/No Consequence
7 Tardy/Inadequate Participation and Attire / Poor Sportsmanship / Enforcement of Consequence
6 Inadequate Participation / 2nd Enforcement of Consequence
0-5 Unexcused Absence / Blatant Misbehavior
In the case of a substitute teacher, any behavior by any student that has to be noted by the sub will receive 1 hour of detention. Any detention that a sub doles out during a class will be served again when I get back. Poor behavior directed toward a sub is inexcusable.
Dress Policy Full dress is required daily. This includes T-shirt, tank or sweat shirt, shorts or sweat pants, socks, and non-marking gym shoes (that never go outside). You will not participate without gym shoes. The same shirt/clothes worn in PE class as worn to school equals an automatic C (7) grade for the day. Likewise for a T-shirt worn to school. You may not wear PE clothes back into the classrooms unless I give you permission.
Participation Policy Injured or ill students will be allowed to sit out of the class period, only with a signed note from a parent or guardian, prior to the activity. Notes received "after-the-fact" will be disregarded and participation points will be docked from the daily grade.
Injured or ill students (with permission) will be required to complete a 1 page report on any subject relating to physical education or health, to be due at the end of the period the day class is missed. Grading of said reports will be based on proper grammar, punctuation, and original content. In other words "not copied straight from your source." You must site your source of information and include it with your name at the top of the report.
Absences After the sixth absence during each semester, each absence will earn a 0 for that day according to school policy for grades 7-12.
Each semester a 5-6 grade student will earn six free absences. After their six “free” absences, they will receive makeup homework for any further absences. Failure to turn in those makeup assignments will receive zero points and will have a negative effect on their grade.
